The Airdrie Fire Department’s (AFD) Fire Prevention Bureau says the cause of a house fire on the weekend in Buffalo Rub remains undetermined.
The origin point of the fire was in the basement, the Bureau confirmed on Friday, and the damage to the building was estimated at $1.1 million.
Three occupants in the home evacuated safely after being alerted by their in-home smoke alarm.
“AFD wants to remind you that having working smoke alarms save lives, cutting the risk of dying in a home fire in half. Smoke alarms should be installed and maintained in every home,” a statement released to the media stated on Friday.
The Airdrie RCMP, Airdrie Fire Department and Rocky View Fire Department responded to a house fire west of Airdrie in Buffalo Rub last night just off of Highway 567 on Saturday, Nov. 25.
One adult was transported to the hospital for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.
According to a Facebook post from Airdrie Fire Chief Mike Pirie, the fire started around 9 p.m. and was finally put out around midnight when he posted his final update on the fire.
“Crews are starting to be cleared,” he wrote. “Please stay away as there are hoses to be picked up. No injuries reported to fire crews.”
