GoFundMe supporting Alberta mother who's partner died in Mexico

Amanda Weger, Dwayne Kirby and their daughter Avery were in Mexico when Kirby suddenly passed away.

The community of Airdrie is rallying around a young mom following the loss of her husband and their young daughter's dad.

Amanda Weger, Dwayne Kirby, and their daughter Avery were visiting family in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, when an unthinkable tragedy occurred, according to a recent GoFundMe post.

In the early hours of Nov. 1, Weger's life partner, Kirby, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind Weger and their four-year-old daughter.

"Dwayne’s life was devoted to his family—being a father to his precious daughter, Avery, and a loving partner to Amanda was everything to him," stated the GoFundMe page. "As Amanda and Avery begin to navigate life without him, they will need support to help carry them through this difficult time and into the future."

Over just four days, the GoFundMe page raised $49,151 to help their family.

Weger has been Avery’s full-time caregiver, while Kirby was the primary income provider for the family. His income covered all of their living expenses as well as Avery’s ongoing medical and therapy needs. Born prematurely with Down Syndrome, Avery has lifelong medical needs that require extensive and costly treatments and therapies and she will always require guardianship, according to the post.

The hope is that this GoFundMe page will relieve some of the financial burden on their family.
