Alberta swimmer aiming for Olympic gold today in 200m individual medley

Okotoks' Finlay Knox will begin his quest for Olympic gold when he competes in his signature event, the 200m individual medley, tomorrow (Aug. 1) in Paris. 

The reigning world champion in the event, Knox will swim in the heats that get underway at 3:47 a.m. MDT.  

The 16 fastest in the heats qualify for the semifinals that will be held at 1:47 p.m. MDT tomorrow (Aug. 1). 

The eight fastest swimmers from the semifinals will compete in the 200m IM final on Friday, Aug. 2 at 12:43 p.m. MDT. 

The Okotoks Mavericks alumnus was part of the men's 4x100m freestyle relay team that finished in sixth place on opening day of competition at the Olympic Games. 

Knox swam the third leg of the relay on the Canadian team that also included Yuri Kisil, Josh Liendo and Javier Acevedo. 

Knox is also expected to be part of Canada's 4x100m medley relay team which will compete in heats beginning at 4:40 a.m. MDT on Saturday, Aug. 3. The 4x100m medley relay final is scheduled for 11:06 a.m. MDT on Sunday, Aug. 4.
