BOWDEN, Alta — Correctional Service Canada (CSC) has announced the death of a Bowden Institution inmate but are not saying at this time how he died.

In a news release issued on July 20, the federal government agency said Timothy Crowe, an inmate from Bowden Institution, died on July 18 while in the prison’s custody.

The news release goes on to say that at the time of Crowe’s death, he had been serving a sentence of five years and seven months for manslaughter since Oct. 18, 2018.

Crowe had originally been charged second-degree murder in the 2017 death of his wife Kristi Schienmann but later agreed to plead guilty to manslaughter before trial.

CSC said in its news release Crowe’s next of kin has been notified about his death.

As with all cases involving the death of an inmate, CSC said it will review the circumstances of Crowe’s death.

The news release said CSC policy requires that police and the coroner be notified.
