COCHRANE— Cochrane RCMP responded to a fatal worksite accident at RancheView School on Friday (Oct. 9).

RCMP responded to the incident at roughly 8:50 a.m. Upon arrival, RCMP investigators located a deceased 20-year-old man from Calgary.

Occupational Health and Safety has been notified and is conducting an investigation.

“All we are releasing at this time is that it was a worksite accident that resulted in a death,” said Cst. Jennifer Brewer. “It’s courtesy to both sides of the investigation but also the family.”

Brewer noted that there were no students were present on school grounds at the time of the accident.

"It's a professional development day, so there's no school today which means there were no kids, thank goodness," she said.

Brewer confirmed reports prompted a response from multiple RCMP units.

“Many hands make light work,” she said. “It was very fortunate for us today that we had members around to help. It’s going to be a pretty dynamic investigation, and having the bodies available to help do that investigation is definitely helpful and today we were fortunate enough to have that.”

RCMP continue to investigate the accident, but no further details will be released unless the death is deemed criminal in nature.
