Man severely injured in grizzly bear attack northwest of Calgary

According to media reports, a man was taken to hospital Sunday morning after being attacked by a grizzly bear sow in Rocky View County about 50 km northwest of Calgary.

According to the reports, Alberta RCMP, along with Alberta Fish and Wildlife and EMS responded to a call at around 10:20 a.m. just north of the intersection of Range Road 34 and Township Road 274.

The victim's injuries were considered serious and possibly life-threatening. He was transported to Foothills Hospital. The sow appeared to be protecting her cubs when the attack happened, police say.
