RCMP investigating church fire on Alexander First Nation

RCMP are investigating an early morning fire on Alexander First Nation.

Just after midnight on Sept. 30, at 12:40 a.m. police received a report of a church on fire on Highway 642 and Range Road 272 on Alexander First Nation.  

A Roman Catholic church was fully engulfed in flames by the time RCMP arrived.

Fire departments from Alexander First Nation, Sturgeon County and Morinville were able to bring the blaze under control however, the church had extensive damage and is believed to be a total loss.

Morinville RCMP general investigations section has taken over the investigation and will be working with a fire investigator to determine a cause. 

RCMP said circumstances around this fire appear suspicious in nature. 

Alexander First Nation is 44 kilometres from the Town of Westlock and 34 kilometres from the City of St. Albert.
