Quad theft latest piece in RCMP investigation of fatal shooting east of Calgary

RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Strathmore RCMP are again seeking public assistance in the homicide investigation which occurred in Rocky View County on Aug. 6, 2024.

Strathmore RCMP are investigating a theft of a quad. The quad is believed to have been stolen on Aug. 7, 2024, at approximately 1:34 p.m., from a property in Wheatland County. A witness saw a male driving this stolen quad.  

RCMP are asking residents in the rural areas surrounding Strathmore to please check their property in an effort to locate this stolen quad.

Ongoing investigation

RCMP have numerous resources continuing with this investigation, the suspects have not been identified and remain at large.

Earlier, RCMP asked for public assistance in identifying a person of interest in the homicide investigation which occurred in Rocky View County on August 6, 2024, that claimed the life of Rocky View County employee Colin Hough. 

RCMP released a photo of the person of interest, who they believe may have information which can assist them in this investigation. He was last seen in Cochrane on Aug. 5, 2024, between 7 and 8 a.m. Police are asking if people can identify the male, to then contact Strathmore RCMP at 403-934-3968.

RCMP also asked for help to identify a potential witness to the Aug. 6 shooting and released an image of a dark grey coloured Volkswagen Golf Sportwagon. This car was captured on dash cam video driving past the scene at Range Road 282 and Township Road 250, at the same time the shooting occurred, on Aug. 6 at 11:55 a.m. RCMP need to speak to the occupants of this car as it could be critical in obtaining important information for this investigation.

Through the investigation, another vehicle of interest was also identified. This vehicle is a white 2013 Dodge Ram with teal aftermarket rims and shell shaped lug nuts. It was stolen from a residence in the 400 block of Abadan Place N.E. Calgary on Aug. 5, 2024, at 5:55 a.m. 

RCMP is not looking for this vehicle but are seeking public assistance to identify any video footage of this vehicle or the subjects who were in it, between the time of its theft up to the time the shooting occurred on Aug. 6 at approximately 11:56 a.m.

The Aug. 6 shooting

Strathmore RCMP responded to a shooting call at Range Road 282 and Township Road 250 to discover two people shot, one with a superficial wound, and another, Colin Hough, who was fatally wounded. According to RCMP suspects fled the scene in a stolen County work truck. The suspects dumped the truck at Range Road 260 and Township Road 252, located in Wheatland County, and fled the scene.

Rocky View County confirmed that Colin Hough was one of their employees. FortisAlberta confirmed that one of its employees was the other shooting victim. According to Fortis, their employee was treated for their injury and was released from the hospital the following evening.
