Arrest made in fatal shooting east of Calgary, warrant issued for second person

A vehicle involved in the Aug. 6 Rocky View County shooting was identified as a white 2013 Dodge Ram with teal aftermarket rims and shell shaped lug nuts.

On Aug. 11, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit with the assistance of members of the Edmonton Police Service arrested a suspect of the tragic shooting which occurred in Rocky View County on Aug. 6, that claimed the life of Rocky View County resident Colin Hough.

This suspect remains in custody with charges pending. Details on this suspect will be provided once the charges have been sworn.

Additionally, RCMP have identified a second suspect in the shooting. RCMP have obtained an arrest warrant for murder for 28-year-old Elijah Blake Strawberry. RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Strawberry. 

Elijah Strawberry is described as light complexion, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 169 pounds, several arm and face tattoos, and brown hair. Strawberry is considered armed and dangerous. If seen Do no approach dial 911 immediately.

The Aug. 6 shooting

Strathmore RCMP responded to a shooting call at Range Road 282 and Township Road 250 to discover two people shot, one with a superficial wound, and another, Colin Hough, who was fatally wounded. According to RCMP suspects fled the scene in a stolen County work truck. The suspects dumped the truck at Range Road 260 and Township Road 252, located in Wheatland County, and fled the scene.

Rocky View County confirmed that Colin Hough was one of their employees. FortisAlberta confirmed that one of its employees was the other shooting victim. According to Fortis, their employee was treated for their injury and was released from the hospital the following evening.

RCMP have numerous resources continuing with this investigation and most recently asked public assistance in finding a stolen quad from a property in Wheatland County.

Earlier, RCMP asked for public assistance in identifying a person of interest in the homicide investigation. RCMP released a photo of the person of interest, who was last seen in Cochrane on Aug. 5. 

RCMP also asked for help to identify a potential witness to the Aug. 6 shooting and released an image of a dark grey coloured Volkswagen Golf Sportwagon. This car was captured on dash cam video driving past the scene at Range Road 282 and Township Road 250, at the same time the shooting occurred, on Aug. 6 at 11:55 a.m. RCMP need to speak to the occupants of this car as it could be critical in obtaining important information for this investigation.

Through the investigation, another vehicle of interest was also identified. This vehicle is a white 2013 Dodge Ram with teal aftermarket rims and shell shaped lug nuts. It was stolen from a residence in the 400 block of Abadan Place N.E. Calgary on Aug. 5, 2024, at 5:55 a.m. and RCMP asking for public assistance in identifying any footage of this vehicle or the subjects in it.
