Southern Alberta Christmas lights festival organizers disappointed by overnight thieves

A flood light and post-pounder were stolen earlier this week from Airdrie's Festival of Lights organization who have have been busy to set up for another season.

In 17 days, the volunteer-run and organized Festival of Lights will be welcoming residents to enjoy the magic of Christmas at Nose Creek Park in Airdrie. Two days into the behind-the-scenes work of moving into the park, they discovered the unfortunate theft, which they believe occurred overnight.

Airdrie Festival of Lights posted online that flood lights taken off their poles and a gas powered post-pounder has been stolen. They ask the public to keep an eye on the buy and sell sites for these items.

On top of the significant loss for their organization, they have also had to add security to their budget this year as a result of the theft. A team from SERT Security Management will now keep a watchful eye over their equipment.

"In the meantime, we’re downloading security footage to see if we might be able to identify the culprit(s)," their online post stated. "If you know who it was, just know if the items are returned, we’ll ask no questions. Can’t wait to see all our GLOWing volunteers this Saturday and Sunday for set up. Disappointed but not discouraged from GLOWing On!"

According to reports, the losses from the theft are estimated to be around $1,000.
