BONNYVILLE – Despite some challenging weather and smoke, the golf season at the Bonnyville Golf and Country club (BGCC) has been active.

With the gentle clink of golf balls at the driving range, water flowing through the fountain in the pond, and the rolling greens, it’s no wonder passing golfers had nothing but great things to say about the state of the course.

Jeff Graham, general manager at the BGCC, says, “The course is in fabulous shape, even with the extremes in weather from rain to drought.”

Graham attributes the atmosphere and condition of the facility to the staff who faced the challenges the summer's climate posed.

“Wade, Shea and their staff have been able to manage through it so well. We have had guests constantly mentioning the flowers and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bonnie for all of her efforts with the extra flower beds she has taken care of this season.”

Graham added, “We had an amazing year for staff this year at BGCC all around and that is why the course and the atmosphere around the club has been so good this season.”

Graham recalls just how unusual the climate has been this season.

“We got off to one of our earliest starts in club history, then followed it up with one of the wettest months in June we have seen in quite some time. Next was the extreme heat and the smoke.”

“Through all that we were able to stay busy,” continued Graham. “That is attributed to the members and the public continually showing their support of the course. We can't do it without them.”

When asked what makes the BGCC a great place to be, Graham commented on the atmosphere.

“We really pride ourselves on having a laid back, warm and welcoming golf club. We want everyone to feel welcome whether you are Jamie Sadlowski shooting 11 under to set the course record, a new golfer that wants a lesson, or to go and practice on the range.”

“We want you to be a part of the family here at BGCC and I think the staff does a great job of making everyone feel welcome. It doesn't hurt that our course is absolutely one of Lakeland’s best in terms of layout and playability,” boasted Graham.

The BGCC has a busy schedule of fundraisers and charity scrambles throughout the season, with The Clayton Bellamy foundations Celebrity Golf Fundraiser coming up on Aug. 31.

“As a club we are so fortunate to work with so many great people and committees that do so much for our community. Their charitable work doesn't go unnoticed. We are happy to supply the venue to them and help in any way we possibly can,” said Graham.

Graham also spoke about the benefits of golf, in general.

“Golf is a great sport to get outside with family and friends. It keeps us all active and just when you have this game figured out it has a brutal way of humbling us. It's a game that you can always strive for improvement, and I think that is why so many of us love it.”
