The Lakeshore drive area.

BONNYVILLE - The Town of Bonnyville is asking the community to provide feedback on the future development of Lakeshore Drive.

According to information from the municipality, “The project aims to explore opportunities around Lakeshore Drive Park Area, with the goal of enhancing recreational and wellness opportunities for Bonnyville residents and visitors.”

The Town of Bonnyville is requesting feedback on “repurposing existing facilities and introducing new amenities,” and “Creating community spaces for outdoor gatherings,” as well as feedback on improvements in general.

Mayor Elisa Brosseau reports that public engagement so far has been very positive.

“There’s different ideas that people tell me they’d like to see. It's very encouraging to hear that people want to see more on Jessie Lake... People really see the potential of having more outdoor recreation. There’s a lot of excitement and a lot of great ideas floating around.”

The project is dedicated to enhancing the community's quality of life and “fostering vibrant community engagement” while keeping in alignment with the Town of Bonnyville Strategic Plan and the Vision Action Plan, according to the Town of Bonnyville.

The Town’s Strategic Plan expresses council's goal to “Sustain Bonnyville’s family-friendly lifestyle and vibrant community atmosphere, while continuing to build a strong economic climate that is welcoming to new and current entrepreneurs.”

The plan touts public transparency and public engagement with “a vision for the community driven by council that speaks to administration and to the public in a way that is transparent and easy to understand,” and aims to “build a culture of collaboration within council and administration and with our residents, businesses, community groups, organizations, and other regional partners.”

The strategic plan also mentions tourism and attracting tourism related businesses and services to the community that enhances residents and visitors' engagement.

Part of the recreation and wellness plan is to “improve and maintain the greenbelt along Jessie Lake as a recreational and fitness area.” Pickleball, outdoor fitness, and frisbee golf already exist in the area.

Residents can take a survey online, which includes a comment section at the end.

Proposed amenities include an outdoor amphitheater, a boat launch, an outdoor trampoline, a wellness garden, and much more.
