Bonnyville youth convicted of bringing gun to BCHS faces new charges

BONNYVILLE - The male charged with bringing a handgun to Bonnyville Centralized High School (BCHS) in March 2018 has been charged with sexual allegations and was released from custody.

The now adult offender, who can't be named due to previous youthful offences where he brought a handgun and ammunition to a local high school, was released from the Edmonton Remand Centre on Feb. 25.

He had been arrested after failing to comply with the conditions of a release order relating to sexual assault, sexual interference, and invitation to sexual touching.

He also faces seven charges of failing to follow court orders, in addition to failing to appear in court.

Honourable Judge Cheryl Arcand-Kootenay, who heard his case in Bonnyville court on Tuesday, agreed with his consent release on $2,500 cash bail with conditions to have no contact with the complainant, report to probation, keep the peace, be of good behaviour, remain in his residence 24-hours per day seven days of the week with the exception to attend court and from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday's to obtain the necessities of life.

The accused will appear in Bonnyville court March 3.
