Bonnyville's C2 centre movie theatre is now free to the public after a sponsorship from Alstar group, a construction and fabrication company for the oil and gas industry thats been working in the area.

BONNYVILLE – Movies at the C2 Centre in Bonnyville are currently free after a corporate donation was received.

On Oct. 22, C2 manager Kelly Skotnitsky and Guest Services co-ordinator Debbie Dallaire received a $2,000 cheque from Alstar Group representatives to cover admission costs so the public can enjoy movies free of charge.

Alstar Group is a construction and fabrication company that has been contracted in the area and has a committee that looks for opportunities to give back to the communities in which they work.

They also donated $1,800 toward operational costs at the C2 Centre, earning them a sponsor sign in the facility. They have also donated to the Friendship Centre and were a corporate sponsor for the recent fundraiser gala hosted by the Friendship Centre.

“We do sponsorships in all of the communities that we work in across Alberta and British Columbia . . . We’ve been doing work here in Northeastern Alberta for about three years – we have two main companies we’ve been doing work with here in the Bonnyville region, which are Cenovus and CNRL. We wanted to give back to the community,” said Doug Nicholson, Alstar Group Project Manager.

Dallaire said the C2 Centre runs movies every day at 1 p.m. in their theatre, as well as evening shows at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

“You can eat right in here too. You can definitely bring your own snacks, and we have a cafe with popcorn and pop,” said Dallaire.

Dallaire said the 1 p.m. movies have been a great community offering for kids and people with special needs.

“If there are holidays, like over the Christmas holidays, I might show three or four [movies] a day, just to give the kids something to do.”

Dallaire said the movies are rated PG, and they offer shows that everyone can enjoy.

“Our streaming site has movies from the 1980s until now, so I have a variety of movies,” said Dallaire.

She said the feedback from the community about the movie theatre has been positive and Dallaire hopes that the word gets out that the C2 Centre offers this family-friendly activity.
