Town of Bonnyville will throw BBQ Bash in conjunction with Fall Fair

Judges and winning teams from the Town of Bonnyville's first annual BBQ Bash.

BONNYVILLE – The BBQ Bash will return to the Bonnyville Fall Fair for the second year in a row.

“Bonnyville’s BBQ Bash is a smoker competition that sees teams going head-to-head to see who has the best recipes,” explained Doreen Kushnir, the Town’s events administration assistant.

Entries to compete this year have already closed.

“As this type of cooking takes a while, competitors have the option to camp overnight at the Bonnyville Rodeo Grounds and will be at the grounds throughout the day during the Fall Fair on Saturday, Sept. 9,” Kushnir said, adding, “All cooking must be completed on-site.”

Competitors can enter into four categories this year, including chicken legs or thighs, brisket, pork ribs, and best appy (appetizer).

“Teams aren’t required to enter every category but if they do, they will compete to win the title of Overall Grand Champion,” noted Kushnir.

Judging will begin at 2 p.m. with the chicken category, followed by the pork rib judging at 3 p.m. and brisket at 4 p.m.

Once judging is complete, spectators can purchase a plate for $2 per sample. The money will be donated to the Bonnyville food bank.

“Best appy will have tickets available for $20 for 25 samples. They will then vote on their favourite and fans’ choice will be announced once all the tickets are counted,” explained the events administration assistant.

“This event wouldn’t be possible without the BBQ Bash Committee and our sponsor, Heavy Crude Hauling,” said Kushnir.
