ELK POINT - A lack of physician coverage means people accessing the Elk Point Healthcare Centre's emergency department will see limited services on Wednesdays and into Thursday morning, until further notice, according to Alberta Health Services (AHS).
The Elk Point ED will be closed from 7 a.m. on Wednesdays to 8 a.m. on Thursdays until further notice, according to information from AHS, dated Sept. 25.
"Nursing staff will remain on-site in the emergency department during these times, providing triage, assessments and referrals for patients to alternate emergency departments in surrounding communities, as needed," says AHS.
Patients should call 911 if they have a medical emergency.
EMS will also remain available to the community "and will work with the local healthcare centre to ensure residents continue to have access to the emergency services they need."
If physician coverage is found, the disruption may be cancelled, according to AHS.
"This is a temporary measure and AHS is working hard to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time."
Health Link can be reached at 811 for non-emergency health-related questions.
