Student athletes from across northern Alberta got into the swing of competition at the Lac La Biche Golf and Country Club over the September 13 weekend for the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference golf regionals.

The Portage College Voyageurs golf team hosted the event that drew four other post-secondary teams looking to qualify for the ACAC golf championships in Red Deer over the September 22 weekend.

A total of 37 men and 12 women golfers from Portage College, Medicine Hat College, SAIT, NAIT and Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) took to the greens and fairways of the Lac La Biche golf course for the two-day competition. The Voyageurs — a team of eight men and one woman – didn't place high enough in the regional results to continue onto the championship finals.

The men’s team finished in fifth place. The lone female player, Sierra Hauser, who competed in the women’s individual category, finished in 11th place, well below Concordia's Lauryn Psutka, who finished in first place for the women’s individual competition.

On the Voyageurs men's side,  Ayden Duniece had a seventh-place finish while Brenan Rosychuk finished in 15th spot of the 37-man division.

Medicine Hat College’s Michael Valk left the Lac La Biche regionals as the men's champ, with the combined men's foursome from SAIT at the top of the standings in team play.

Although the Voyageurs won't be moving on to the championship round, results from the finals will be available on the Voyageurs website.
