They were playing two teams with bird names ... during the one weekend of the year most associated with winged animals ...  so perhaps it comes as no surprise that the Lac La Biche Lakers dropped their Thanksgiving weekend hockey games to the Edson Eagles and the High Prairie Red Wings.

The Lakers, in their first season playing in the National Junior Hockey League, suffered a 15-3 drumming on the road against the Eagles on October 11 and a 9-3 loss to the Red Wings on home ice the next night. The results put the Lakers into a four-game losing skid thanks to back to back losses over the previous weekend to the visiting Gibbons Pioneers and again to the Red Wings.

The losses bring the Lakers' record to one win and five losses, keeping them in the bottom of the five-team NJHL North Division.

The Lakers' next game is Friday, October 18 against the Vulcan Rampage, one of three teams competing in the NJHL's South Division. Game time Friday night at the Bold Center in 7:30 pm.  The Lakers are back at home on October 26 for the second game of a two-game home and home series with the Redwater Pioneers. Both of those games are also 7:30 pm starts. Admission tickets for all home games can be purchased at the arena doors.
