LAC LA BICHE - On Sept. 15, the Lac La Biche Mission re-created a scene from a bygone era with an old-fashioned afternoon tea party. The walk-back-in-tea-time event took place inside of the old convent situated on the grounds of the historic site.

Those who came to the event inside the building, which was built in the late 19th Century, were treated to tea served in antique cups and saucers, as well as a variety of dainty sandwiches, wraps, scones, bannock, and sweets. While the guests sipped tea, enjoyed the culinary offerings, and chatted, Plamondon-based musician Sam Elliott entertained them with popular classic country-western songs.

The tea party is one of several Alberta Culture Days events taking place in Lac La Biche County during the month of September. On Sept. 9, the Mission hosted a Métis sash making and beading workshops along with a multicultural food fair, and live music.

From Sept. 22 to 23, the Owl River Cultural Association will be offering a chance to experience Indigenous culture with a festival that features traditional music and performances by Indigenous dancers, along with a fashion show where Métis women and girls will don colourful traditional ribbon skirts.
