LAC LA BICHE - The Lac La Biche Lakers junior A hockey team started its first season in the National Junior Hockey League (NJHL) in late September and enjoyed its third win of the season on Oct. 26 with a 6-3 win over the Redwater Pioneers in front of a hometown crowd at the Bold Center.

While the Pioneers’ Michael Beaverbones managed to get in the first goal of the contest, this was quickly overshadowed by five consecutive goals from the Lakers during the first period. These goals were scored by Zach Beinert, Sam Boyer, Patrick Bourque, Jaron Shirt, and Dustin Whillier.

The Lakers skated into second period with a commanding 5-1 lead. Halfway through the period, the Pioneers managed to get onto the scoreboard a second time. However, the gap between the two teams was widened once Raiden Perkins scored the Lakers’ sixth goal of the game near the end of the second period.

Following wins on Oct. 18 and 26, the Lakers move up a rung into fourth place in the five-team NJHL North Division, one slot ahead of the Pioneers, who hold last place.
