PLAMONDON - During the holiday season, many homes in the hamlet of Plamondon and surrounding areas are adorned with Christmas lights and festive decorations.

Each year, the Plamondon Agricultural Society hosts a contest to shine its own spotlight onto the best lit-up homes in the area. Contest winners get cash prizes as well as recognition.

According to Bernard Ulliac, the president of the Plamondon Agricultural Society, members of the organization have already been driving around the community looking over the many brightly-lit homes and businesses to determine which ones will be chosen as the 2024 winners.

He said that the winning properties will be selected on December 17, with three (first, second, and third) from Plamondon and another three from the rural areas. First place winners receive $150, second place $125 and third gets $100.

Ulliac stated judges are considering presentation and themes of the decorations as they make their way around.

“We have a sheet that we go by, and it’s the light, the theme, the appearance…how much is handmade versus bought…stuff like that,” he told Lakeland This Week, explaining that the Plamondon Ag Society gives points, which are tallied up when choosing the first, second, and third frontrunners.

Ulliac continued by saying that the winners-in addition to being provided with a bit of extra cash for the holidays-are also awarded with colourful ribbons. The ribbons – sponsored by the Plamondon Agricultural Society – can be displayed on peoples’ homes.

The contest-which has been taking place for the past two decades-Ulliac said, is one that many folks in the community look forward to each Christmas season.

“It’s just a community spirit type thing and some people just like to go all out for Christmas, and now they’re being recognized for their efforts,” he said.
