Volunteers already making hundreds of perogies for Craigend dance

Mmmm - perogies. On December 2 the Ukrainian treat will help raise funds at the Craigend hall.

How do you work off a belly-full of perogies?

You dance.

The  Craigend Perogy Dinner and Dance will be taking place on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Craigend Hall, and preparations are well underway for the annual fundraisser.

Molly Fyten is a director with the Craigend Rec and Ag Society, and the chairperson of the organization’s social committee. She said the annual dinner and dance, which is normally held a few weeks before Christmas, started in 2016 as a grand opening event following major renovations on the local community hall. It was so popular that it became a regular thing.

The event is organized by the society’s volunteer board of directors, who step up to work the fundraising event. One of the biggest parts of the preparations is making the namesake treats. With three weeks still to go before the sour cream is ‘dolloped’ onto plates, expert hands are making the hundreds of perogies that will be the star attractions.

According to Fyten, the Craigend Perogy Dinner and Dance typically draws anywhere from 150-200 people. This year, doors open at 5:30 p.m. while the dinner gets underway at 6: p.m.

There will also be live musical entertainment after the dinner by local band ‘Capo on 2.’

Tickets will be sold at the door during the night of the event. The price of tickets is $30 per person while those aged 6-12 get in for $10. Admission is free for guests under the age of 5.

“This is one of our main fundraiser events each year,” she said. “It is a fun event for people of all ages, from all areas.”
