LAC LA BICHE - The Portage College Voyageurs men’s hockey team suffered its sixth straight loss of the 2024-2025 season after dropping a pair of home ice games to the visiting Briercrest College Clippers over the Nov. 15 weekend. The home team lost 4-2 on Friday night and 4-1 the next afternoon.

The first game, which played out at the Bold Center in front of a small hometown crowd, started out on the right track for the Voyageurs with Payton McDonald-Corea scoring the first goal.

The Voyageurs enjoyed the brief 1-0 lead until Briercrest got the puck past Portage goaltender Tresor Wotton two times before the end of the first period.

Just after four minutes into the second period, Portage College’s Ezra Baer evened the score once again. But the even-footing status would once again get tripped up as the Clippers rebounded, scoring two more goals before the end of the second. The 4-2 lead held to the end of the game.

The Saturday rematch didn't see the Voyageurs get onto the scoreboard until the third period with a goal from McDonald-Corea. By then, Briercrest had scored three times. The Clippers would score one more to put the game out of reach before the final buzzer.

It's been a challenging season so far for the Voyageurs – the team notched two wins to start the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) regular season in October, but haven't seen the win column since. The losses to Briercrest have kept the Voyageurs at the bottom of the league's seven-team Northern Division.

The Voyageurs head to Camrose on Nov. 22 to take on the Augustana University Vikings. The two teams will be coming to Lac La Biche the next day for the match-up at the Bold Center.
