Two men charged following rural theft south of Smoky Lake

SMOKY LAKE - Two men were apprehended by police following a report of an alleged theft from a rural property on Sept. 29 in the Smoky Lake area.

Smoky Lake RCMP responded to the location, which was on Highway 855 near Township Road 584, south of Smoky Lake, at about 7:15 p.m.

"Upon arrival, police spoke to the property owner who described coming onto his property and observing that his vehicle had been damaged and fuel stolen," according to information from RCMP.  "The victim then reported seeing a vehicle come onto his property and flee when approached."

The suspect vehicle was located south of the property and two people were reportedly seen running into the trees.

"Police were advised by a witness of a possible location where the suspects were hiding. Officers entered a heavily bushed area and located the two suspects who were arrested," according to RCMP.

David Gessleman, 38, from Edmonton, was charged with theft of fuel, mischief, trespassing at night, and resisting arrest.

Gessleman was taken before a Justice of the Peace and released with his next court date set for Oct. 24 in For Saskatchewan.

A second man has charges pending for resist arrest, according to RCMP.
