Intoxicated driver faces provincial sanctions

BONNYVILLE - On Aug. 15, RCMP responded to a call of a vehicle parked on the side of the road with the wipers on, "which seemed unusual."

"Members arrived on scene and located the driver asleep in his vehicle with open liquor," according to Bonnyville RCMP. The driver was asked to submit to mandatory alcohol screening and it showed him to be impaired.  

Through the investigation, it was determined that the driver was also a suspended driver.  

Provincial sanctions were applied and the 29-year-old man from Glendon was subject to a 30-day vehicle seizure, a $1,000 fine, and a further licence suspension.

Stolen vehicle recovered

On Aug. 18, police located a stolen vehicle in Glendon. The truck had been stolen the previous day from Bonnyville.

"A 21-year-old male from Edmonton and an 18-year-old female from Bonnyville were arrested on scene and are facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime," according to Sgt. Kimberly Hillier of the Bonnyville RCMP.

The 21-year-old man, Desmond Spence, was taken before the Justice of the Peace and was released on $10 cash bail for each of his offences.  

Man tries to evade police

A 60-year-old man is facing new offences after trying to evade police.

On Aug. 16, Bonnyville RCMP members were attempting to execute an arrest warrant for Murray Schwartz. He tried to evade police by running away. Schwartz was quickly located and arrested for the arrest warrants, and new offences of resisting police.

"He was transported back to cells where he was released by a justice of the peace on $500 cash bail."

Co-op

A report of a fence at the Co-op Agro Centre being cut and flashlights left behind was made to RCMP on Aug. 19.

"Member attended and documented that the corner of the fence was cut and pulled back. Evidence was secured and the RCMP are requesting any information that the public may have concerning the break and enter to report it to the local detachment or Crime Stoppers."

Damaged vehicles

Police are investigating an incident where two vehicles had been damaged while parked in the east end parking lot of 4101 46th Ave. in Bonnyville on Aug. 16.

An unknown suspect caused damage to the rear wipers of the vehicles. RCMP are looking for any information related to the incident.

Stolen motorcycle

A motorcycle was reported stolen on Aug. 17, from the area of 53 Street in Bonnyville.

"The steering wheel was locked turned left and keys in the apartment," according to police. The motorcycle is described as a 2009 yellow Yamaha FZ6R, handle bar end mirrors, and has a sticker on the frame. The vehicle has been added to CPIC and any information the public may have concerning this theft can be reported to RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Impaired in public

An employee from the Royal Bank called RCMP on Aug. 19 to report two individuals who were consuming alcohol and doing drugs outside. Police attended and found that one of the suspects of the complaint had an outstanding warrant out of Cold Lake for a 2020 impaired investigation.
