Lena DesRoches was upset to see litter near the Beaver River while she was sledding, so she took matters into her own hands.

LAKELAND - Seven-year-old Lena DesRoches was recently spotted hauling a sled full of litter up the Iron Horse trail, near Cold Lake.

On Dec. 23, after a day of sledding with her family and two dogs near the trestle bridge, Lena could not ignore the garbage others had left behind.

Her mother, Cheilan DesRoches, said they had been enjoying the snow when Lena spotted a bunch of litter.

"[Lena] said 'Who did this?'. We had seen some people go by and she was wondering why they didn't do anything about it. She wanted to load it all up," said Cheilan.

Between her good deed and an afternoon spent playing in the snow with her family, Lena was full of smiles as she hauled her sled back to the parking lot.

Lena said the experience made her feel good, and she agrees that it would be great if her good deed inspired others to keep the land clean.
