ELK POINT – Elk Point’s Forest of Lights is back for another year and businesses, organizations, groups and individuals are welcome to add a decorated tree or any type of Christmas display that showcases their business or group to the 2024 Forest.
The lineup of trees and displays starts Nov. 25, with the Forest of Lights going live to light up the area along Railway Ave. at 5 p.m. on Nov. 29.
The light up is the official start of this year’s Extravaganza, but even before that, at 4 p.m. that afternoon, shoppers will be able to pick up their bright green Extravaganza Bingo card at participating businesses, many of them offering sales and specials for an early start on holiday shopping while they collect their first stamps with a $5 minimum purchase (one stamp per business) as well as to pick up their first draw slips for the two-week-long Shop Local campaign.
The bingo cards must be dropped off at Guardian Drugs or Home Town Grocers by 9 p.m. that evening, for the draws at 9:15 p.m. for cash prizes and more. The Shop Local draws will take place on Dec. 13 at Cornerstone Co-op.
And how about your parade float?
Businesses, organizations, groups and individuals are also welcome to enter a float in the Winter Wonderland Parade, which will line up along Railway Avenue for its 6 p.m. start on the traditional route around town which will make its way up Main Street before turning west to pass Parkview Long Term Care, Buckingham House, Heritage Lodge and Fort George Manor, allowing delighted crowds of seniors to enjoy the colourful spectacle
Planning for everything from Santa’s visit and hayrides to other events taking place on Extravaganza evening is well underway, with more updates coming next week.
