LAKELAND - At 11:51 p.m. on Dec. 21, RCMP released information stating driving conditions were not favourable in many areas across the province.

"Alberta RCMP advise that of poor driving conditions in several locations in the province," reads the information from police.

South of Calgary, freezing rain was causing extremely poor road conditions.

"On Highway 2 South of Highway 23, High River RCMP are responding to multiple collisions including jackknifed semi trucks," according to RCMP.

In many areas North of Red Deed - including in areas of the Lakeland - thick fog was reducing visibility.

"As a result, police have been responding to several collisions."

On Sunday morning, 511 Alberta was showing a motor vehicle collision westbound Highway 16, near the junction with Highway 857, south of Vegreville. The incident was causing traffic delays.

RCMP confirmed the scene on Highway 16 was clear, shortly after noon on Dec. 22.

"Motorists are asked to avoid travel and ensure they check Alberta 511 for the most up-to-date highway conditions and plan accordingly," reads the RCMP notice sent out Saturday night.
