LAC LA BICHE - The Lac La Biche County-based Lakeland Archers welcomed the world in 2019, hosting the World 3D championships just prior to the COVID-19 global pandemic, and thanks to the over-sized indoor range and archery headquarters built for those games, the club has welcomed some of the province's best junior archers looking for a spot on Team Alberta at the 2022 PanAm Archery Championships in Nova Scotia.

A provincial qualification shoot was held at the local archery lanes located just west of the Lac La Biche hamlet on Saturday and Sunday. Archers from across Alberta were in the community for the two-day event. The Lakeland Archers home base is one of the only places in the province that could host the event during COVID-19 provincial restrictions.

"Being we have the largest archery facility in Alberta, we can shoot 25 archers at a time keeping six feet apart," said Lakeland Archers coach and renowned archery judge Rene Schaub.

The event was another bullseye scored for the local club, says Schaub, who said the visitors were treated to local hospitality and a state-of-the art facility.

Top scores from the Compound and Recurve classes will go onto the Team Canada selection list. The youth and masters PanAm Archery Championships will take place next May, welcoming shooters from 33 different countries.
