LAKELAND - Over the weekend, the Lakeland District Soccer Association hosted the 2021-22 indoor Lakeland Cup at the Cold Lake Energy Centre.
The tournament involved U11 boys and girls teams from Bonnyville and Cold Lake. As well as coed teams from Bonnyville, Cold Lake and Lac La Biche that competed in the U13 and U17 levels, while the U15 coed teams from Bonnyville and Cold Lake battled against each other for the Lakeland Cup title.
On Saturday, the Cold Lake U11 girls team won both their matches against the Bonnyville girls to take first place.
The Cold Lake U11 boys also won both games against their Bonnyville rivals taking the victory in their division for the Lakeland Cup.
The Bonnyville U13 coed team tied against the Cold Lake team, but saw a win over the Lac La Biche U13 team. Cold Lake's match against Lac La Biche also result in a tie.
In the U13 coed division, Bonnyville took gold, Cold Lake ended with silver, while the Lac La Biche team took home bronze.
On Sunday, both the U15 coed teams from Cold Lake and Bonnyville would see one win and one loss. In the end, the team from Bonnyville took first place having earned seven goals for with only four goals against in the two matches.
The U17 coed matches also took place on Sunday.
After winning against Cold Lake and losing against Bonnyville, the Lac La Biche U17 team finished the Lakeland Cup tournament with silver.
Remaining undefeated in both matches, the Bonnyville U17 team took home gold while the Cold Lake ended the tournament with bronze.
Lakeland teams see success at FC Memorial Challenge
During the last weekend of January, Lakeland soccer teams made up from players from Bonnyville, Cold Lake and Lac La Biche saw success in Edmonton during the FC Memorial Challenge tournament.
The U15 Lakeland girls earned silver medals at the tournament, while the Lakeland U11 boys, U11 girls and U17 boys won bronze.
The U17 Lakeland girls and U15 Lakeland boys also participated in the FC Memorial Challenge but did not medal.
