St. Paul Elementary School seeks County support to improve playground

ST. PAUL – St. Paul Elementary is raising money to enhance its playground, and during the Nov. 26 County of St. Paul council meeting a request for sponsorship was discussed.

The school’s playground has served the school for years, said Adrienne Dallaire, principal of St. Paul Elementary School, in a Nov. 4 letter to County of St. Paul council.

But over the last 10 years, the student population has grown from 350 in 2014 to 450 students in 2024.

“This enhancement means an increase in accessibility for our students, which reinforces a safe and stimulating environment for physical activity, social development and creative play,” wrote Dallaire.

The school’s Parent Fundraising Council has been fundraising since 2022, according to the principal, and is seeking support and donations from businesses and members of the community.

Coun. Darrell Younghans said enhancing the park is “not a bad idea,” explaining the playground, which is located just off St. Paul’s main street, is used not only by the school’s students but also by other members of the community.

Council approved providing $5,000 to help with the project.

According to information from the County of St. Paul’s meeting agenda, as of Oct. 28, $76,000 has been raised so far. The school hopes to apply for a grant when it reaches $125,000.
