ST. PAUL - The Christmas spirit will be arriving in St. Paul over the weekend, as A Community Christmas takes place at several venues, offering residents lots of opportunities to celebrate the season.
A long list of events is planned for the weekend of Dec. 6 and 7 – from the annual Christmas craft sale hosted by the Visual Arts Centre to the Santa’s food drive parade (see above for map), cookie decorating, The Nutcracker – and more.
This year, the Town of St. Paul has taken a lead in coordinating A Community Christmas, as well as sponsoring some of the events, such as the Christmas movies being played at the theatres on Saturday afternoon, explains Sarah Burton, executive assistant with the Town of St. Paul.
“Generally speaking, the Town tends to be looked to when holiday celebrations are nearing. Each of these individual activities, when combined into a day’s celebration, do represent the Town as a whole to not only our residents but to visitors to the community as well,” says Burton, when asked why it's important for the Town to be involved in the event.
Along with some traditional reoccurring events happening, this year will feature a few new additions – with the intention of not duplicating what’s already being done, says Burton
She encourages people to take part in the event, saying, “We are fortunate that being a rural community, we have various not-for-profits and businesses stepping up to host some festive fun with a majority of the events being free or a minimal expense to join.”
Being an annual event now, “there is always room for growth,” says Burton, adding, it is through partnerships that A Community Christmas can expand into an even bigger event.
“If there are any businesses or organizations who have an interest in hosting an event, please reach out and connect with us. We’re more than happy to bring more ideas to the table,” says Burton.
