SPRUCE GROVE, Alta. — Alberta RCMP say there could be more victims after four assaults allegedly took place at a daycare just west of Edmonton.
Parkland RCMP say they received a complaint of an assault last week at a daycare in Spruce Grove and that at least four victims have since been identified.
Parents of children attending Little Stars Montessori Early Learning Center are encouraged to contact police if they believe their child was harmed.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Gina Slaney says no charges have been laid as of Friday morning.
She says the RCMP isn't disclosing the nature of the alleged assaults and wouldn't say if any of the victims were seriously injured.
On Thursday, the Alberta government issued the daycare a probationary license that temporarily prevents it from looking after infants.
"Through continued monitoring, further enforcement up to and including cancellation of a licence can occur if the level of risk continues or escalates," the government said in a release Thursday.
Jobs Minister Matt Jones, in a statement, called the allegations "deeply concerning" and said the government's child care licensing team is also investigating.
"The safety and well-being of children in this province is our government’s top priority," he said.
The government said seven children are affected by the restricted licence. Parents who need alternative child care options can call the government's Child Care Connect phone line.
The alleged assaults took place in February.
