The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) deployed a team of investigators to Hinton on Saturday to investigate a train derailment.
The CN Rail freight train reportedly derailed around 5:20 a.m. that day on the west side of Hinton.
CN crews and local emergency services were on scene.
“Roughly 20 cars derailed, there were no dangerous goods involved and there were no injuries,” TSB spokesperson Liam MacDonald said in an email.
“We are currently gathering information and assessing the occurrence.”
CN later confirmed it was 23 railcars that were loaded with sand and derailed in various positions.
The tracks reopened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening.
CN stated that site clean-up would continue for several weeks.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
