Canola processing plant expands in Lloydminster

Canola acreage has increased in 2010 over last year. ADG Agri-Industries in Lloydminster is increasing capacity in hopes of being the processor of choice for canola producers.

ADG Agri-Industries is increasing capacity at its Lloydminster canola processing facility. The project will include a second unloading bay and double grading capacity.

The upgrades will significantly reduce waiting times for unloading this harvest season, said spokesmen Roman Blahoski. He said the company decided to upgrade its facilities after a survey of farmers indicated they would like to see a decrease in wait times. “This expansion will address that issue,” he said.

“The receiving capacity expansion is one way we can help producers as we strive to be the destination choice for their canola crop,” said J.P. Montalvo, commercial manager for ADM Lloydminster.

ADM is also currently evaluating the possibility of a biodiesel facility.

ADM's Lloydminster facility is one of two oilseeds processing facilities the company operates in Canada, the other located in Windsor. The Lloydminster plant crushes canola oilseeds and exports the oil to Asia for food products and to Europe for biodiesel feedstock.
