Co-operatives in Lakeland hosted a drive-in Movie in the Park event.

BONNYVILLE – On Sept. 6, Lakeland Credit Union, Co-operators Insurance, and Lakeland Co-op, partnered to host a free drive-in movie for the community.

The movie in the park featured The Garfield Movie, with plenty of food trucks, free popcorn, and mascots wandering around the Bonnyville Rodeo Grounds, offering free hugs.

The weather was perfect, and the sky glowed pink as everyone settled into their lawn chairs, cars, or into the bed of their trucks to enjoy a movie with the community.

Some guests of this event created elaborate set ups in the back of their trucks, with air mattresses, camp stoves, and a nest of pillows and blankets to cozy up in with the family.

Attendee Dan Chatel remembers when Bonnyville had a drive-in movie theatre north of the ag grounds, that shut down in the '70s when he was a kid. He now enjoys coming to this community event.

In typical co-operative fashion, Lakeland Co-op's marketing specialist Sue Mojcik was quick to accredit the event as a real joint effort with Lakeland Credit Union and Co-operators Insurance.

Mojcik explains that the drive-in movie is a way to give back to the community and thanked everyone that came out to enjoy the event.
