BONNYVILLE – Following the devastating fire in Jasper on July 24, The MD of Bonnyville has decided to offer campsites to evacuees who need a place to stay. Sites will be available to evacuees free of charge from now until the end of September.

“The Municipal District of Bonnyville is offering Jasper Evacuees travelling through or staying in our area, free power campsites at our Muriel Lake Campground... Jasperites interested in one of these free sites can book a spot by calling 780-826-3972,” according to information from the municipality.

MD of Bonnyville Reeve Barry Kalinski was keen the municipality do something to help those affected by the fire.

“I guess, just when you think you’re having a bad day, it’s not that bad. My heart goes out to the people from Jasper,” he said, reflecting on the past week. “I have some great memories from that town, and I know some people that are personally affected... My thoughts and prayers are with all the people.”

Kalinski says he has relatives affected by the fires who are currently in the Bonnyville area.

The Muriel Lake Campground is located at 60304 Range Road 452. It is located 12 km east off Highway 28 (just before the Town of Bonnyville) on Twp Rd 610, and six km south on Range Road 452.

The campground facilities offer a shower house, coin-operated laundry facility, a sanitary dump station, nature trails, baseball diamonds, playgrounds, and waterfront. Muriel Lake is one of the largest campgrounds in the MD of Bonnyville.
