BONNYVILLE - Bonnyville’s youth support service, The Hive Youth Hub, will remain open throughout the summer, offering various social and physical services and support for youth aged 14 to 21 years old.
The Hive boasts a compassionate and collaborative environment that is “an integration of health and social services in a youth-friendly environment,” according to their website.
Programming includes grief support, art projects, pizza nights, games nights, walk-in counselling, smudge ceremonies, and more.
Liz MacPhee, the operations lead at The Hive, says “The Hive is vital for the youth of Bonnyville and the surrounding community. There isn't any place like it, especially during the summer when they lack the daily social interactions of school and sports. It is a safe space for youth to attend and work on life skills through programming or access physical services such as our walk-in or counselling.
The Hive has seen record numbers of attendance, says MacPhee. “Attendance throughout the fall and winter has been excellent, with some of our most significant numbers since opening over two years ago.
Though attendance often drops during summer holidays, The Hive will continue their programming while adding some new programs.
“Many community partners are joining us this summer to offer exciting new programs. Some of these partners will also utilize our space to provide their summer camps, bringing in new faces to The Hive,” says MacPhee
The Hive operates around the ‘Six Dimensions of Wellness” promoted by the National Wellness Institute: emotional, occupational, physical, social, intellectual, and spiritual.
“Addressing all six dimensions of wellness in our lives builds a holistic sense of wellness and fulfillment,” states their website.
With their diverse programing, rapidly accessible health and wellness resources, and high attendance, The Hive continues to offer Bonnyville an impactful youth service.
