Elk Point firefighters pay tribute to 9/11 victims

ELK POINT - Elk Point Elementary School students flocked to the south end of their playground as Elk Point Fire Department members in full protective gear made their first of two laps around the traditional parade route, accompanied by the department’s new Rescue 2 unit.

The local firefighters paid tribute to the 343 firefighters and nearly 3,000 other victims who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. This distance of the two laps is approximate to the 110 floors that firefighters climbed in the World Trade Centre Twin Towers in order to rescue those that they could.
