LAC LA BICHE - Burgers, buns and busy barber chairs have helped raise just under $2,000 for the local KidSport organization.
Lac La Biche barber Omar Saleh offered up a 'cut' of all his daily takings and turned his Main Street sidewalk into a burger buffet for the August 20 event.
"All the haircut money and the barbecue funds from the day were donated 100 per cent to KidSport," Saleh told Lakeland This Week.
And because the fundraiser was for KidSport, even more team spirit shone through as Britton's Your Independent Grocer provided the grill, burgers and pop.
"It was so nice to do this for the kids," said Saleh, who's barber shop has been a regular host of community fundraisers over recent years.
The Lac La Biche Kidsport group, part of the national organization, helps to promote healthy activity for local children by helping to subsidize sport registration fees and equipment costs for children under the age of 18.
According to Kidsport Canada information, costs can keep one out of every three Canadian children out of organized sports. The funds raised by initiatives like the barbecue and barber donation at Omar's Barber Shop stay in the community to help provide grants for local families having difficulties with fees and sports equipment.
Donations can be made to the Lac La Biche Kidsport group through their website.
