LAC LA BICHE - Shouts of "Bingo!" could be heard inside the Lac La Biche Heritage Society on Tuesday as a large group of local seniors got together for an afternoon of fun games and socialization.

Stacy St. Jean, the executive director of the local seniors’ centre, says the regular bingo events are hosted on the first and third Tuesday of every month. The games are part of a lunch and socializing afternoon.

“It’s a lot for fun… We have our hot dog concession beforehand, so most people come for the lunch and then they play some games of bingo,” St. Jean told Lakeland This Week.

The participants, St. Jean continued, play a three-game series of standard bingo. There are also a couple of extra games, including a fast game.

The player who has all the right numbers goes home with the jackpot. According to St. Jean, if nobody snags the big prize, it gets carried over to the next bingo event. She explained that during the most recent bingo, held on Aug. 20, one lucky player left $384 richer by winning the jackpot.

New and old

Going forward into September and the coming year, St. Jean says the seniors’ organization is hoping to host a variety of events to entertain current members and to draw new people to the active group.

Get-togethers such the bi-monthly Bingos, she said, are beneficial for seniors.

“It gets them out… it gets them socializing… playing bingo’s good for your brain… and it’s fun,” she said.
