ST. PAUL - The St. Paul Fire Department responded to a report of an attic fire on April 15 at about 10:40 a.m., within the Town of St. Paul.
“Upon arrival, it was determined the cellulose insulation was burning in a large part of the attic,” said Fire Chief Trevor Kotowich. “Firefighters gained access through an attic hatch to determine the extent of fire.”
Firefighters cut an access from the underside and began shoveling out the burning insulation.
“Applying large amounts of water in a situation like this will do more harm than good, explained the chief.
A decision was made to call in a vac truck from Xtreme Oilfield, so firefighters could suck out the burning insulation. The department was on scene until about 2:30 p.m.
“This was the first opportunity we had to use our ladder truck on a fire call, and it proved extremely beneficial,” said Kotowich.
