Storm system moving toward St. Paul, Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Lac La Biche regions

LAKELAND - A storm system moving east is expected to make its way through the Lakeland region Tuesday evening.

According to an Environment Canada alert updated at 6:50 p.m., there is a "severe thunderstorm watch" in effect for much of the area.

"Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail," reads the alert. "Severe thunderstorms are expected early this evening. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road."

The alert further states, "Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors." 

According to Environment Canada, "Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall."
