72-year-old struck and killed on Highway 2 north of Calgary

An Airdrie senior was killed Sunday on the QEII when he was hit by a car at 1 a.m.
Airdrie RCMP secured the area after human remains were found east of Airdrie on May 4.

A man died following an accident near Airdrie on Sunday, Sept. 8.

On Sept. 8, at approximately 1:05 a.m., Airdrie RCMP, Fire and EMS, responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Highway 2 near Airdrie. The collision occurred when the vehicle, travelling southbound on Highway 2 near Edmonton Trail, collided with the pedestrian.

The victim, a 72-year-old male resident of Airdrie, had been hit by a vehicle and was transported to a Calgary hospital with life threatening injuries. The man later succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital. The driver of the vehicle and the four passengers were not injured.

RCMP sends deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The investigation continues. RCMP is asking anyone that lives in the area and witnessed the collision, has security camera footage from the time of the incident, or has information regarding this incident, to contact the Airdrie RCMP Detachment at 403-945-7267.
