Woman driver killed in train collision north of Airdrie Thursday

A female driver died on scene during a collision between a passenger vehicle and a train.

Today (Feb. 27), the Airdrie Fire Department, EMS, RCMP and CP Rail Police responded to the scene located east of Range Road 11 and Township 274 near Dixon Stevenson Trail, north of Airdrie. 

On scene, the female driver was entrapped in the vehicle requiring a difficult 20-minute extraction. The incident took place in the afternoon at around 12:02 p.m.

The vehicle was facing eastbound when it was struck by a train. No one else was reported injured as a result of the collision; Airdrie RCMP has cleared the scene. 

Investigators from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) were on site though events leading up to the collision are currently unknown. 

There were no hazardous materials being carried by the train.
