A Didsbury couple are suddenly millionaires -- five times over – after winning $5 million in the June 26 Lotto 6/49 draw.

Murray and Darlene Timmins bought the winning ticket at Canco in Didsbury.

They won their prize by matching all six numbers selected in the June 26 Lotto 6/49 Classic draw: 2, 7, 10, 23, 25 and 29.

The couple employed a specific strategy for lottery ticket purchases.

“We’ve been playing the same numbers since the '80s,” Darlene said in a Western Canada Lottery Corporation news release. “They were the same numbers my late father played, as well.

“(When I saw we’d won) I just said, ‘Thanks, Dad.’”

“She checks the tickets while she drinks her coffee, before I even get up in the morning,” Murray said.

Darlene was shocked to see that those special numbers had finally been drawn.

“I said, ‘I think we won! Look, look!’” she laughed.

“I was expecting a free play or something,” admitted Murray. “I couldn’t believe it.”

The couple has a plan as to what to do with their newfound money.

“My husband doesn’t need to work anymore. Now he can stay home and look after me,” Darlene said.

“We’re going to Montreal to see family,” Murray added. “I haven’t seen my mom in 20 years.”
