A black bear with two cubs has prompted a warning for Ribbon Creek Trail from the Memorial Lakes Junction trailhead in Kananaskis Country.

KANANASKIS – A bluff charge from a black bear with two cubs has prompted a warning for Ribbon Creek Trail from the Memorial Lakes Junction trailhead in Kananaskis Country on Sunday (July 21).

The warning is in affect until further notice.

“Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time,” states the advisory from Alberta Parks.

Outdoor enthusiasts can take the following precautions to avoid a surprise encounter with a bear.

  • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
  • Be aware of your surroundings, look and listen for bears and their signs.
  • Keep your pet on a leash.
  • Carry bear spray, make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.

A bear warning, from July 15, is still affect for Kananaskis Village due to a black bear and two cubs frequenting the area.
