Following the death of 17-year-old Jaeden Chaisson, one of two teen girls stabbed multiple times on Thursday in St. Albert, 28-year-old Kaj Randall is now facing a first degree murder charge, as well as an attempted murder charge for another victim still in hospital.

“On July 18, 2024, at approximately 10 p.m., St. Albert RCMP was dispatched to a complaint of a male hurting a female at a residence,” reads a new St. Albert RCMP release. “Upon arrival, two females, aged 13 and 17, were located inside the residence with multiple stab wounds.”
“Investigation revealed that the person believed to be responsible was Kaj Randall. Randall was known to the victims.”
Randall was arrested in Edmonton early Saturday morning and initially charged with two counts of attempted murder, although the death of Chaisson means one of those charges has been upgraded to first degree murder.
RCMP say Randall was remanded into custody yesterday following a judicial interim release hearing, and he is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Albert on Monday.
Nicole Chaisson, Jaeden's mother, posted on Facebook on Saturday evening that Jaeden died shortly after 4 p.m.
“My beautiful baby girl fought so hard but her injuries were so severe that even all the prayers being sent could not save her,” Nicole wrote. “She was surrounded by numerous loved ones as she peacefully left us to reunite with her dad and grandma.”
“My heart is so unbelievably heavy.”
A GoFundMe page has been organized by a friend of the family to raise money for the teen's memorial.
“Jaeden was loved by many for her kindness, vibrant spirit, and the joy she brought to everyone around her,” the page reads. “Her unexpected and tragic departure has left a void in our hearts that can never be filled.”
As of Sunday morning at 10:45 a.m., nearly $9,000 has been raised.
