MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - The driver of an SUV involved in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 22 near Township Road 312, also known as the Elkton Road, north of Cremona on Sunday died at the scene, police said Wednesday.
At about 5:30 p.m. on March 2, Didsbury and Sundre RCMP responded to the collision.
“Upon arriving at the scene, a Dodge Journey and Ford F150 were located in the northbound lane and the Dodge was fully engulfed in flames,” said RCMP Cst. Gina Slaney said in a release.
“The driver of the Dodge was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the F150 was flown by STARS air ambulance to a Calgary hospital in critical condition.”
STARS confirmed one patient, a male in his 60s, was transported to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary in critical condition.
The RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation continues, she said.
“RCMP sends condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and the injured male,” she said.
The RCMP has not released details about the deceased or where they are from.
A portion of Highway 22 was closed for several hours while emergency crews responded.
