Preliminary hearing delayed for Alberta senior accused of shooting teen

The preliminary inquiry for the St. Albert senior will be rescheduled on Feb. 10.

The two-day preliminary inquiry for the St. Albert senior charged with shooting a teenager, originally scheduled to take place on Jan. 23 and 24, has been adjourned.

Jim Bregin, 84, is charged with aggravated assault in the shooting of a 16-year-old who was trespassing on Bregin's property on June 29, 2024. The teen suffered serious injuries, and Bregin was charged with aggravated assault, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and intentional, reckless discharge of a firearm.

 The matter will next appear in court on Feb. 10, where they intend set a new preliminary inquiry date.
